Fantastic First Pop-Up Farmers Market
Posted on May 5th, 2014
There were grand champion strawberries from Ponchatoula’s epic festival and Rome family tomatoes from Romeville. Organic hen and duck eggs from Felixville and organic Billie Girl lettuce from St. Francisville. Malco’s Magnificent Salsa made here in Baton Rouge and Momma Mia’s Authentic Italian Cookies made in Prairieville. There were Dress Like a Local t-shirts and salad dressings from Hooked on Re:, and delightful foods, marinades, and snack mixes from a variety of vendors. There were nearly 30 farmers and crafters with three dozen unique, locally made products, from hand-crafted cutting boards to a cajun rendition of immune-boosting elderberry syrup.
Most importantly, there were neighbors — lots of neighbors — who came out to visit, find out where their food comes from, and support the small businesses that provide it.
“Thank you so much for the opportunity to connect with our customers,” said Marlene Most, whose Most Delightful Foods includes Animae snack mixes. “The response that I heard from our customers was so positive and many were asking when the next pop up market would occur.”
Our answer? Alexander’s SECOND Pop-Up Farmers Market will be Sunday, June 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., slightly earlier hours to beat the heat. We’ll have more fresh produce as crops come in across the area, and we’ll have another variety of crafters, including a local potter selling her wares.
Enjoy these photos from the fun and festive day!
