Shop for fresh blueberries, tomatoes, farm eggs, goat milk, and other homemade or handcrafted goodies—and join in the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank’s REDSTOCK summer campaign—at the Pop-Up Farmers Farmers Market on Sunday, June 4, 2017, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., at Alexander’s Highland Market, 18111 Highland Market Drive.

Bring or donate a canned good to join our efforts to restock the sparse shelves of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank during summer. “Kids are out of school and there is greater need,” says Rachel Koch, public relations and communications communicator for the food bank. Non proteins, such as canned beans, tuna, or peanut butter, are in high demand, but the food bank welcomes all donations.

Pennington Biomedical Research Center staff will sample Blueberry Cheesecake Cups, a Test Kitchen recipe, as well as offer research and nutrition tips. They will be joined with EatFit BR representatives, who will discuss healthy eating habits.

Other attractions include local jams, jellies, fermented foods, salad dressings, salsa, dips, and healthy tea. Artisans will showcase handcrafted pottery, jewelry, artwork, wooden cookware, homemade soaps, and handpainted bows. An onsite barbecue will add to the festive atmosphere.

This signature event has become a community favorite, drawing hundreds of farm-to-table enthusiasts each spring and fall. “Supporting local farmers and fledgling food companies is a large part of our mission,” says owner Lathan Alexander. “We also regularly partner with local health resources like Pennington and Eat Fit BR to encourage wellness in our community.”

Vendors include Cypress Springs, Rome Farm, Ewing Farm, J&D Blueberry Farm, Davis Farm, GrinningJupiter Jammery, Season to Taste, Raw Sugar Toffee, Cultured Guru, Dip Me Snacks, Hanley’s Foods, Blazing Saddles Salsa, Fresh Hibiscus Tea, Andi Lynn’s Elderberry Syrup, Copper by Audrey K, Red Stick Spoon, Jessica Barre art, Snoddy Sister Soaps, Southern Belle Boutique, Carolyn Rodrigue Art, and more.
