Garden fresh potatoes, tomatoes, squash, snap beans, eggs, goat milk, and goat cheese will be sold alongside homemade soaps, custom encaustic artwork, custom jewelry made onsite, hand-carved Cajun spoons, and designer hair bows, among other things. An onsite barbecue and wine sampling will add to the festive atmosphere.
In addition, Pennington Biomedical Research Center nutritionists will sample Louisiana Strawberry Salsa, a recipe developed in their test kitchen, as well as dispense healthy eating tips and discuss current research taking place at their world-renowned facility.
Farmers in the May market include Ben Bryson Farms, Ewing Farms, Davis Farms, and Cummings Farms. Hanley’s Foods will have new salad dressings not yet available anywhere else, including its Sweet Creole Mustard & Balsamic vinaigrette, plus new salad toppers: Toasted Pecans & Almonds in coconut oil. Other vendors include Boutte’s Bayou Tamales, City Gelato, Mom’s Garden Foods, Season to Taste, Hanley’s Foods, RawSugarToffee, The Cajun Spoon, Snoddy Sister, Cypress Springs Gifts, Southern Belle Bows, Audrey K copper jewelry artisan, and artists Carolyn Rodrigue and Jessica Barre. Andi Lynn’s Elderberry Syrup will be sampling inside.
This signature event has become a community favorite, drawing hundreds of farm-to-table enthusiasts each spring and fall. “Big box stores and massive chains have lost their allure in a culture hungry for community and healthy food,” says owner Lathan Alexander. “Supporting local farmers and small food vendors is our mission. It’s a great way to connect with others and get unique items for Mother’s Day.”
