2008-2014DSC_0884_12502DSC_0884Fifth-generation family business Liuzza Produce Farm Inc., will anchor Alexander’s Highland Market’s Pop-Up Farmers Market on Sunday, June 7, 2015, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., selling Creole tomatoes, bell peppers, green beans, cucumbers, yellow and zucchini squash, and eggplant grown in Tickfaw, La. In addition, J&D Blueberry Farm of Poplarville, Miss., will sell fresh-picked blueberries and blackberries.

 

 

DSC_0150_12740DSC_0150Also on hand will be dieticians from Pennington Biomedical Research Center sampling “Delicious Diabetic-Friendly Quiche” recipes and local food blogger and author Maggie Heyn Richardson, signing and selling her new release, Hungry for Louisiana. Several local breweries, including Covington Brewhouse, will sample craft beers from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

farewayThe market will also feature face painting for kids and outdoor grilling, making it truly a family friendly community event. “Supporting other small businesses and bringing people together to meet the folks who grow and make their food has been a fundamental part of our business plan since we opened two years ago,” says Lathan Alexander, president. “The pop-up market model builds community and benefits everyone.”

Art vendors include Susan Rodrigue Pottery, Kristine Stone food photography, Carolyn Rodrigue beeswax paintings, and Courtland & Co. frames.
