City’s First Pop-Up Farmers Market

“Knowing where our products come from, whether it is food or other personal items, is a lost concept,” says Laura Bellefontaine, co-owner of Genuinely Simple, a new company that makes comfrey cream bars and lotions. Her husband creates custom wood cutting boards. “This event will attract a perfect market of people interested in local crafts and food.”
Farm fresh eggs, organic lettuce, Ponchatoula strawberries, cornish hens, quail, homemade pralines, and other sweets are a few of the edible treats that will be available at the market. Artwork by Kay Miller, original slate decoupaged tiles from New Orleans, and some religious jewelry will also be available.
“A fresh idea just got fresher,” says Lathan Alexander of his store’s new monthly venture. “This kind of quick merchandising takes advantage of existing foot traffic, makes introductions, and brings farmers, artisans and small business owners closer to the people they serve in South Baton Rouge and Prairieville. ”
During the Farmers Market, Alexander’s will be grilling Hollywood Livestock’s grass-fed beef during its weekly Sunday BBQ.
Other participating vendors include Blayhut Strawberry Farm, Felixville Organics, Sage Hill Farms, Briarhill Farms, Grinning Jupiter Jammery, Most Delightful Foods, Dr. Sam’s Essential Lotions, Ruth’s Hummus, Elkarita drink mixes, Le Posh Pomme, Hanley’s, Malco’s Magnificent Salsa, Fleur D’Elise, Hooked on Re:, Delightful Palate, Fresina’s Italian Foods, and Southern Art.
