Three Generations of Ruth’s Hummus

When the Thomas sisters were growing up in the ‘70s and ‘80s, hummus was a dish their Baton Rouge friends and neighbors knew little about. Still, the girls brought their mother’s homemade dip to every crawfish boil, fish fry, and Cajun gathering they attended. Soon everyone was requesting Ruth’s hummus, made from scratch scratch following a recipe that Ruth Deumite Thomas’ Lebanese parents brought along when they immigrated to Louisiana in the early 1900s.
