How’d you like to get paid to eat pizza or brownies? Or earn a gift card to talk about what, when and how you eat? Pennington Biomedical Research Center on Perkins Road invites people of all ages and backgrounds to participate in their clinical trials. All of the studies are free, and some offer compensation. They can be as short as an afternoon or as long as 22 months. Topics run the gamut, from the role walking and exercise plays in slowing the advance of Alzheimer’s disease to figuring out why women carry weight differently in the Apple & Pear Study.
Our friends and readers are a pretty health-conscious lot, but we aren’t sure whether folks realize the number and quality of discoveries being made regularly right here in our hometown. For example, Pennington’s recent study revealing the health dangers of prolonged sitting was covered by CBS, CNN, USA Today and the New York Times. Last year, a study that found a link between children’s bedroom television viewing and obesity was published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
