A week of stormy weather dumped record rainfall on the area and flooded the fields of some local farms, but it wasn’t able to wash away our monthly Pop-Up Farmers Market held June 1. In fact, gray clouds gathered but held off as a dozen new vendors and hundreds of customers came out to learn more about local food products, meet the bakers, cooks, and artisans, and barter for goods.
The food trucks return today in the side parking lot near our cafe from 5 pm until 8 pm. Taco de Paco, Fleur de Licious, Geaux Yo, Cupcake Allie, Pullin’ Pork, and Mobile Muncher will all be here as part of the Wround-up. Come out and give them a nice South Baton Rouge welcome!
Join us Thursday, June 12, for our first monthly wine dinner featuring seven courses paired with wines from the California central coast. Beginning with a cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m. followed by the full dinner at 7:00 p.m. in our transformed cafe, you’ll be treated to a varied menu of surf and turf, including tuna, scallops, clams, mussels, oysters, shrimp, and red fish along with beef tournedos, with perfectly paired wines for every dish. Tickets are $65/person for the fine china affair and can be reserved by calling 225-615-7800 or stopping by Customer Service.
Join us this Sunday for the city’s second Pop-Up Farmers Market from 9 am to 1 pm near all entrances of Alexander’s Highland Market. New featured activities for this market include face-painting for children and homesteading and gardening questions answered by East Baton Rouge Master Gardeners. We’ll have more produce from new and returning farmers, as well as new crafters and artisans joining a host of returning small businesses. (Note the time has been changed to earlier hours beat the heat.)
Come out Wednesday evening, May 14, from 5 pm to 8 pm to sample the areas best food trucks: Taco de Paco, Cupcake Allie, and more.
Alexander’s Highland Market is more than a grocery store, and that is never more apparent than at holiday time. Consider the many services and options we provide this Mother’s Day to celebrate your moms:
Alexander’s will host a wine tasting with light hors d’oeuvres from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, May 10, throughout the store. Shop for Mother’s Day gifts or “make groceries” while sampling distinctive selections. Vineyard list to come soon.
Tuesday is pizza night at Alexander’s. Get a 16-inch with up to 4 toppings for $10.99.
Alexander’s will host the city’s first Pop-Up Farmers Market on Sunday, May 4, from 11 am until 3 pm. Two dozen farmers, artists, crafters, and entrepreneurs will line our sidewalks with their wares, meeting and greeting and selling directly to Alexander’s shoppers.
We grill, you chill. Every Thursday night. It’s more than take out – it’s Steak Out.
